Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen ⭐ I read the paper back and kindle interchangeably
It's incredibly difficult to review a book that's literally been reviewed millions of times. Especially when your thoughts are in the minority. I did not like Pride and prejudice. I understand that some view it as satire on Jane Austen's part, making fun of the society norms of the time. And I get that. I don't have a feminist issue with the story line and how women had to have a certain skill set to be considered good marriage material. I don't have a hard time reading formal language or 'old fashioned' books. Some of my favourite books are considered old fashioned. I will say though that one of my favourite book quotes of all time comes from Pride and prejudice. "I cannot comprehend the neglect of a family library in such days as these" I did however not enjoy the snide comments, the judgment of physical appearances, the shallowness. I would even call it gossipy. The comments about not being able to eat across from 'that nose' until death do them part etc, but it seems to be prevalent of the time frame because the later novels in the Anne of green gables series was the same. The blatant favouritism shown towards certain daughters. I despised the conspiring of Mother Bennet and the whole character of Lydia. I struggled through most of the book and the ending was disappointing. I'm now watching the movie, which I haven't watched before so I had no comparison to make or to sway my opinion. Maybe I'm over sensitive, or just silly but some of the comments would be incredibly hurtful if made directly to the person concerned. Maybe this book was triggering because of growing up with comments like that. But it was not the book for me, I don't regret reading it or finishing it because I feel it is one to read to understand the 'pop culture' aspect of it if I can call it that. Have you read pride and prejudice? What is your opinion of it? Please don't hate on me if it's your favourite book and my opinion differs.
